New Media Tools Assignment

1.     GroupMe is a group messaging app, designed for use by smartphones.
2.     GroupMe was launched by GroupMe, a private company, in May 2019, and is owned by Microsoft.
3.     In order to create a GroupMe account, users must either provide a name, cell phone number, and password, or connect to GroupMe through a Facebook or Twitter account. GroupMe then syncs the user’s contacts. After creating an account, users can create or join group messages of any size. Groups are commonly made for work/school functions, clubs/organized activities, social functions, etc.
4.     Entering the community only requires the creation of a GroupMe account. Community is maintained through individual group chats. For example, I am in GroupMes for my job, class projects, social organizations, etc.
5.     GroupMe enables instant messaging to a large group of people. Users can instantly communicate with everyone in a given group by posting a message in the group.
6.     Because groups can be formed for a variety of purposes, GroupMe can be used in educational settings, to communicate with people of other cultures/countries, to organize events, organization of political/civic engagement, etc.
